Kibaki bodyguard moved in police reshuffle

null 1/1 NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 15 - One hundred and twenty five senior police officers have been transferred in a major reshuffle mainly affecting the divisional level of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Notable changes include that of John Kizito, a Senior Superintendent of Police attached to the Presidential Escort who has been transferred to Meru South as the area police chief. His replacement at State House was not immediately announced and no explanation was given in a statement sent to newsrooms by Police Spokesman Erick Kiraithe. Nearly all divisional CID chiefs in Nairobi have been replaced in the reshuffle that also affects divisional police commanders across the country. In the changes announced by Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere on Tuesday morning, seven senior officers holding the ranks of Assistant Commissioner of Police were also transferred. They include Gerald Mbaabu who has been moved from the Personnel department in Central Province to North Eastern Province in the same capacity. Mr Mbaabu will be replaced in Central Province by Kalicha Roba who is currently based at the Personnel department at Police Headquarters in Nairobi. Nairobi area deputy Provincial CID chief Pius Macharia has also been moved to CID headquarters’ Investigations Branch. Mr Macharia will be replaced at Nairobi area by the deputy officer-in-charge of Investigations at CID headquarters Julius Rutere. Hamisi Mwaruwa who is the staffing officer in Rift Valley CID has been moved to Nairobi to be the deputy officer in charge of Inspections at the CID headquarters. Also moved is David Cheruiyot who heads the Personnel department in Nairobi Area. He will now be the deputy PCIO in Nyanza Province. Michael Okumu who is the officer in charge of the Revenue Protection Unit at the Kenya Revenue Authority has been transferred to head the Operations department at Nairobi Area police headquarters. Divisional Police chiefs moved include Lang’ata OCPD Augustine Kimantiri who has been moved to Nairobi area and replaced by Embakasi divisional police Chief David Bunei. Mr Bunei’s position at Embakasi has been taken over by Christopher Odhiambo who is currently the deputy officer in charge of Operations in Central Province. Charles Musewe has also been transferred from the Traffic headquarters and appointed the OCPD Railways in Nairobi. Marsabit OCPD Humphrey Wanzala has been moved to police headquarters’ personnel department. Also moved is Julius Ole Sunkuli from the Investigations Branch at CID headquarters to Nairobi area Provincial Police headquarters where he becomes the deputy head of operations. Vihiga DCIO Harrison Meme has also been transferred to Kilimani in the same capacity where he will replace Mwenda Etiaba who moves to Kwale. Benson Kasyoki who is attached to Interpol at CID headquarters has been transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as the DCIO. Other divisions affected include Kayole, Gigiri, Dagoreti, Makueni, Nakuru, Samburu among others. In the changes, the Police Commissioner promoted John Leshimpiro and transferred him from Mount Elgon where he is the deputy OCPD to Lugari where he becomes the OCPD. He will be replaced in Mount Elgon by Ezekiel Onyango. Also promoted is Mark Wanjala from deputy senior officer in charge of operations in Kajiado to Marsabit where he becomes the OCPD. Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere has ordered all the officers affected to hand over and report to their new stations by March 28th. Mr Iteere said the transfers are part of the reforms he is undertaking to transform the face of the police force in a bid to improve service delivery.
