Kabogo: Tradition demands that I support Uhuru

By MARY KAMANDEJuja MP William Kabogo has defended his decision to ditch Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua in favour of Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking when he hosted Kiambu County civic leaders at his parents’ home in Ruiru at the weekend, the MP said he had not fallen out with Karua but tradition dictates that he supports Mr Uhuru.
"It is not that I have anything against her, but it is in our tradition to support our own," he said, alluding to a popular allegation that Kiambu residents took oath not to let Kikuyu political leadership to cross Chania River, in Thika.
Mr Kabogo said the meeting with the councillors was aimed at uniting the leaders so they could root for support for Uhuru at the grassroots.
He said he and Uhuru were planning a larger meeting to be attended by the councillors and their supporters early April.
"When we call for the meeting, we request you to each come along with five of your supporters and five of the people you feel do not support you and your spouses," he told the councillors.
Kabogo said the meeting with councillors would be held on April 3, at Uhuru’s home in Gatundu.
The DPM, who addressed the councillors on the telephone, said they would be working together to see that Central Kenya was united.
At the same time, Kabogo restated that Central Kenya leaders were behind Uhuru, even with the "imminent prosecution" at the International Criminal Court.
He criticised some ODM leaders for allegedly agitating for Uhuru and other five to be prosecuted at the international court, adding they (ODM leaders) should also have been among the prime suspects.
The last time Uhuru met civic leaders at his father’s home late last year, the Press was locked out
