A senior PNU minister is pushing for the appointment of Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa as Foreign Affairs minister to replace Sirisia MP Moses Wetangula, who stepped aside last October to pave way for investigations into claims of corruption in the purchase of a building housing the Kenyan embassy in Japan. The PNU minister considered close to President Kibaki is now planning a series of political rallies in Wamalwa’s Trans Nzoia County to deliver the message that the MP is fit for the position. Internal security minister George Saitoti heads the docket in an acting capacity.

The PNU leaders did not expect Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM to write the UN Security Council opposing the deferral of cases before the International Criminal Court. Some of the leaders said the letter took them by surprise as they did not expect ODM to go to the extent of writing the UN. "He (Raila) got us flatfooted,” was the wry comment by one of the PNU senior ministers.

Baringo Central MP Sammy Mwaita, who once was the Commissioner of Lands, was seen in a popular restaurant in deep discussions with the current Commissioner of Lands Zablon Mabea. The topic of their late-night conversation was not immediately known but Mabea had a folder with a bunch of papers.

Yesterday we told you that one of the Ocampo Six suspects was spotted meeting with former Mungiki sect leader Maina Njenga in a Karen restaurant. Our tipster now informs us that it was not Maina Njenga but another of the Mungiki sect leaders said to be one of the key witnesses for the ICC trials.
