Corridors of Power

E-mail Print PDF
Share/Save/Bookmark A former Cabinet minister is spending his days away from the corridors of power relaxing in style. The man who seeks control of a political party was spotted at an exclusive Naivasha getaway in the company of a young woman whom he wined and dined the entire evening. During the intimate evening, the ex-minister lay back in his chair with his mouth wide open as the lady 'fed' him beer — oblivious of the gaze by the other patrons.

A PNU Cabinet minister is said to be behind the harassment and even possible elimination of some people who were due to be taken to safety by the International Criminal Court as witnesses of the 2007-08 post-election violence. Word is out that the minister reportedly sent emissaries to the prospective witnesses and tried to prevail upon them to withdraw. When they refused to play ball, they were warned of dire consequences.

Eugene Wamalwa may have invited trouble upon himself. We are told that most of the MPs from Western region have written him off and are planning to scuttle his presidential bid. One of the MPs told Corridors that the community has declared Eugene a "traitor" and wants to teach him "a political lesson for allowing himself to be used to fight Luhya leaders especially Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende and Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba, chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee".

A Nairobi tycoon is using police to intimidate and harass people whom he owes money. Recently he summoned a senior officer in charge of a special police unit and handed him Sh20,000. This was done in the presence of a couple whom he owes money and who had rightly gone to demand he repay the loan. We are told this is not the first time the tycoon has done this. Every time someone goes to demand their money he summons a senior cop to show that he has connections in high places and there is nothing his debtors can do to him.
