NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 - Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has called on Kenyans to assist and support people with disabilities in the society.
Mr Musyoka said that the sick and the disadvantaged in the society need to be assisted in order to live normal lives.
He said there were many disabled people in the society who were being hidden by their parents and urged those with such information to report to authorities.
The Vice President made the remarks on Saturday when he visited several business activities in Mwingi town, in his Mwingi North Constituency.
He noted that the disabled rights are assured in the new Constitution.
“Disability is not inability,” noted Mr. Musyoka.
At Abdolaziz Sunkar hardware shop, he introduced Mwendwa Malyunga an upcoming entrepreneur in the area.
Mr Malyunga who is disabled intends to start a Hardware business.
The Vice President called on businessmen in the town to support other upcoming entrepreneurs like Mwendwa to improve their livelihoods.
He urged businessmen get insurance covers so that they are compensated when fire outbreaks occur.
He noted that the town was developing very fast and urgently requires a fire fighting equipment, saying several schools, shops and Mwingi County Council offices had been gutted down by fire in the recent past.
Mr Musyoka said there have been many cases of fire outbreaks that have caused a lot of damage to properties in the area but due to lack of insurance covers they could not get compensation.
On security, he decried the increase of thuggery in the area and called on residents to embrace Community Policing and assist the administration in fighting crime.
“People stealing from others will not be tolerated,” the Vice President added.
Mr Musyoka called on the Mwingi County Council to rehabilitate the town streets and ensure they have lights.
He also called on the youth to embrace sports like and athletics saying many young Kenyans had earned a lot of money when they win in competitions.
The Vice President urged them to emulate the World’s 800 metre holder David Rudisha among others.
