Kimani Maruge, the World’s oldest pupil died in Nairobi on Friday at the age of 90.
He died at Cheshire Home for the Aged, in Nairobi’s Kariobangi South estate where he has been staying, according to police and officials there.
“He passed away at 1.30pm; his body is still lying in the house. He has been sick and his condition had deteriorated lately,” an official at the home Donatila Ekuyi said.
“He has been suffering stomach cancer. We are waiting for his family members but the police have been notified,” she added.
Police at Kasarani said they had received the information.
“It is not a police case that is why we can not comment on it. If a person dies of natural causes it is not a police case,” Jasper Ombati, the area police chief said.
When journalists arrived at the home, the late Maruge’s body was still lying on the bed and was covered with a blanket.
Kimani Maruge is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest primary school student in the world.
The nonagenarian joined class one at Kapkenduiywo Primary School in Eldoret at the age of 84.
