Corridors of Power

Senior police officers who have applied for the recently advertised County Commanders’ positions are now accusing Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo of intimidating them after he told them not to apply for the jobs. The IG has also been accused by the chairman of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) Johnstone Kavuludi of actively blocking police reforms and attempting to weaken the commission's mandate by amending the National Police Service Act.

The Kenya Meat Commission which was revived after much public outcry and with billions of shillings being spent is once again on its deathbed. Our moles tell us the company has for the last two months closed production because suppliers have not been paid. They tell us that during a recent visit by Agriculture Secretary Felix Koskei the man in charge Ibrahim Haji hurriedly ordered the purchase of about 200 animals to hoodwink Koskei into thinking that the plant is fully operational. All the Cabinet secretary needs to do is to check out the various outlets if he really wants to know whether the meatpacking factory is fully operational or not!

Is the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission playing mind games with applicants interested in the principal secretaries jobs? It seems that many of those who are reported to be under investigation by the commission are not aware of this and have been getting their clearance certificates as and when they present themselves to the commission. The latest such person was former Ewaso Nyiro development authority managing director Charles Sunkuli who spent the better part of yesterday at Integrity House only to be told that the commission was not investigating him and even gave him a letter indicating that he was clean!

A former MP from western Kenya has quickly fall into hard times just months after he lost the elections. The man who only served one term and barely contributed to debates in Parliament was on Monday spotted withdrawing Sh300 from an MPesa outlet along Kenyatta Street which he used to pay his matatu fare to his Nairobi home.
