Thursday August 30,2012 - The wife of late Nairobi tycoon Gerishon Kirima,Teresia Wairimu, has accused Water and Irrigation Minister Charity Ngilu of kidnapping his husband from his home before he died in hospital.
Testifying at the Milimani High Court on Wednesday, the widow said that the Minister colluded with her step-children to abduct Mr Kirima from their Kitisuru home before secretly flying him out of the country.
Mrs Kirima said that on August 8, 2010, while she was with her husband, Mrs Ngilu visited them and took her aside to talk.
“Unknown to me, as we were chatting with the minister in a room upstairs, another gang of eight to 10 men including plain-cloth police officers forced their way into bedroom of my husband and unceremoniously took him away,” she said.
She said the Ngilu’s men roughed up Mr Kirima and knocked out two of his front teeth as he resisted their arrest, she said, adding that they bundled him into her step daughter’s car and sped off.
The widow said she was left shocked and when she regained her consciousness. She gained courage to follow her husband to the Nairobi Hospital, she found that he had been admitted under a different name of “John Juma”
She further stated that police officers stationed at the hospital refused to allow her to see Mr Kirima and she subsequently filed an application at the High Court to be allowed to see him.
The Kirima family has been embroiled in a succession dispute after the tycoon’s death in 2010 with two disputed wills being fronted by each side.
Mrs Kirima has tabled one while her stepchildren have tabled a second one, which they claim is genuine.
The hearing continues…
