DEPUTY Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has asked PM Raila to "grow up" and stop insulting elected leaders. Reacting to remarks by Raila that some of his opponents were drunkards, bhang smokers and thieves, Uhuru dismissed the PM as a person without ideas and a development agenda.“He is inciting Kenyans for the sake of revolution. For the years he has been known in the country, there's no single incident when there was peace. He should mature up and grow up,” he said.

Uhuru was speaking at Nyeri Golf Club in Nyeri town after launching a borehole and a swimming pool at the weekend. Lari MP David Njuguna also criticised Raila and called on Kenyan leaders to respect each other. "The premier should not call elected leaders drunkards and thieves. It is very unfortunate for senior leaders to insult each other in public," said Njuguna.

Mutito MP Kiema Kilonzo said it was hypocritical for the prime minister to refer to other leaders as thieves and drunkards yet he had worked with them in the past.

He said that the same leaders he was insulting had propelled him to power. “It is highly hypocritical for Raila to insult leaders who helped him become the prime minister simply because he has fallen out with them. It is like a man who resorts to abusing a girl after his advances have been turned down. When did he realise that they were thieves and drunkards?”Posed Kilonzo.

Acting government whip Johnstone Muthama urged PM Raila to tone down his rhetoric and end the personal attack on his political opponents for the sake of unity and national cohesion.

Muthama said it is absurd that the PM dismissed his oponets as bhang smokers, drunkards and thieves before the public in complete disregard of his responsibility as a top government official in the coalition. "This was a very irresponsible remark on the PM's part and is bound to polarise the country yet the allegations are neither here nor there," Muthama said.

He further said the PM is getting desperate and has resorted to insults and confrontational politics as he had run out of ideas and his political fortunes have taken a down turn.

Muthama, who is also the Kangundo MP said Raila should not talk about corruption as some of his key aides were involved in the maize scandal two years ago but there was no evidence to prosecute them.
