Prime Minister Raila Odinga Thursday kicked off his extensive tour of the Western Region that will see him initiate and commission several development projects in the region.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment in opening up the western tourism circuit by improving the region's infrastructure.
Raila began his visit by branding the Ndere island in Kisumu rural and Kisumu impala sanctuary geared at boosting the region's tourism potential.
He said that besides expanding Kisumu airport to international standards, the government had improved other feeder airstrips in the region to improve access to the region by tourists.
Raila called for public private partnership especially in hotel industry to improve on the available facilities.
"Western region is endowed with so much potential that could support tourism. We have potential for water sports on the lake, rare wild animal species, inviting climate, diverse culture and beautiful scenery" The PM observed.
Wildlife and Tourism Minister Noah Wekesa and Kenya Wildlife Service Director Julius Kipngetich said the locals stand to benefit from tourism.
The Premier is expected to tour Western Kenya, inspect and launch various projects before heading to Rift valley mid this month.
