Prime Minister Raila Odinga blames bad governance, corruption and negative ethnicity as the key issues that have rendered Kenya and the wider Africa backward.
The premier who spoke at a panel discussion with representatives from the International Monetary Fund-IMF- at the Nairobi University Monday said the region should not look to donors for solutions to troubles facing the continent, as Africans must develop Africa.
The Premier said it was atypical that the wealthiest continent in terms of resources was poorest in development.
For this, Raila blamed bad governance, graft and ethnicity as the key issues blocking development in Africa.
His sentiments were echoed by IMF MD Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who says the fund's approach to combating corruption emphasizes prevention, concentrating on measures to strengthen governance and limiting the scope for corruption.
Raila further added that Kenya must not look to donors for advice as it is our mandate to determine its destiny.
The fight against graft according to the premier will be fought best if it is personalized with Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai saying funds are present to better development but are routinely directed elsewhere
