The Jubilee coalition manifesto launch was a display of technological prowess and entertainment antics which kept both local and international audience engaged through the event.
In a departure from the normal political rally programmes, it was mixture of speeches interviews and interactive sessions that were aired live on television, radio and the internet.
Speeches
Apart from the official speeches which came at the tail end of the programme, top leaders in the coalition including Deputy Prime minister Uhuru Kenyatta, his running mate William Ruto, Najib Balala and Charity Ngilu were taken to task and took turns to explain what they understood about their manifesto and how it would work to uplift the lives of Kenyans.
Sonko kids
But it is a children group dubbed Sonko Jubilee kids which stole the show, stirring up the crowds by their rap song. Two of them aged between nine and 12 are former Makadara MP Gideon Mbuvi alias Sonko’s children, hence the group’s name. And like their father, they entertained the crowd ensuring that their body language and words kept everyone laughing.
Evident during the launch was the efficient use of technology as the event streamed live on Google stream and local radio and TV station.
The 4500 capacity stadium was filled to the brim by supporters forcing some of them to watch the event live from outside the main venue.
And in demonstration of how inclusive the manifesto was, aspirants representing the 47 counties formed a ring passing the document to one another before it was finally handed to the party’s flag bearer Uhuru Kenyatta.
Guests were kept entertained by local gospel musicians and various artists who kept the lively crowd jovial from the various performances which were fine tuned to spread the Jubilee agenda.
Loud cheers, party chants amidst vuvuzela blowing supporters welcomed the coalition partners one by one as they each took to the podium to address the crowd.
