The law-enforcement agencies here have arrested a Kenyan security guard suspected of killing an American woman who was teaching at a school in Al Wakra, US-based newspaper, The Morning Call, reported yesterday.
The newspaper identified the victim as Jennifer Brown, a 40-year-old woman from Jim Thorpe, a borough in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, and said she was killed during a robbery attempt. The suspect has confessed to the crime that took place on November 14, the newspaper added, quoting the father of the victim, Richard Brown. Jennifer “was found slain in her apartment,” he said.
She was a victim of an apparent random act of violence and the motive is still unclear. The Morning Call said quoting Jennifer’s father that the police recovered the money from the Kenyan suspect which he had taken from her.
There was no independent confirmation about the incident or about the names and nationality of the suspect and the victim.
Al Sharq briefly reported yesterday that an ‘African national’ suspected of killing an ‘expatriate’ last week had been taken into custody and that he had confessed to the crime.
Jennifer, according to The Morning Call, had been teaching pre-school children in her Al Wakra school since last September.
“She was a good kid, a beautiful girl,” her father was quoted as saying. She is to be buried in Jim Thorpe where she was born and raised.
“See you at the Christmas time, dad,” Jennifer had said before a friend drove her to Philadelphia International Airport. That day would never come.
Brown said Qatari authorities told him a suspect, a security guard from Kenya, was arrested and money taken from his daughter was found on him.
The suspect admitted to the November 14 killing and faces the death penalty, Brown told the US newspaper. He is still waiting for his daughter’s body to be flown home.
