FOUR MPs have claimed there is a plot by a section of politicians to create bad blood between President Kibaki and PM Raila Odinga ahead of the 2012 general election. The ODM MPs accused their PNU and G7 Alliance counterparts of trying to interfere with the mutual understanding the PM has enjoyed with the President in the last four years.
Lands minister James Orengo, joint government chief whip Jakoyo Midiwo, Uriri MP Cyprian Omollo and Alego/Usonga’s Edwine Yinda said the group is plotting to frustrate the cordial relationship between the two principals. They said their opponents fear that Kibaki’s mutual relationship with the PM is likely to boost Raila’s chances of capturing the top seat in next year’s elections.
They said their opponents constant attacks on the PM will not deter him from ascending to power. Orengo said the leaders have been constantly misinterpreting PM’s sentiments with an aim of instilling bad blood between him and the head of State. He said Raila has no problem with the President adding that is the reason he declared him ‘Kibaki Tosha’ in the run up to the 2002 general elections. “It is prudent for the public to judge their leaders by their past development records records and not what they utter,” he said.
He lamented that Raila’s opponents have of late formed a habit of making a personal attack on the premier and challenged them to be nationalistic and shun trivial issues. He called on their opponents to sell their agenda for the country to the public instead of hurling attacks at the PM.
Midiwo said the relationship between Kibaki and Raila has been friendly since the formation of the coalition government but his opponents were not happy because of vested interests. The leaders were speaking at Sigomere in Ugenya constituency during the burial of the late Dr. Joseph Okanga.
