Githunguri blasted for claiming he served links with President Kibaki

Githunguri MP Stanley Githunguri’s remarks over his stand not to work with president Mwai Kibaki has been met with hostility from locals who claim he is unfit to lead Kiambaa.
His sentiments during a fundraiser at St Bernadette Catholic Church on Tuesday has sparked a new developing debate on why the MP has been so reluctant to develop his Kiambaa constituency for the past three years he has been in office.
The business tycoon seems to be losing it to his people as he declared he would be launching his campaign for the Kiambu county governor seat in January, a move that would be a tough walk and tight rope for him after his Kanu counterparts spoke out of their dissatisfaction with the MP’s sentiments towards Kibaki and the Party of National Unity (PNU).
Speaking to the press yesterday, Limuru town Kanu chairman Macharia Wainana condemned the MP saying that he was selfish and only power ambitious but not meeting the needs of the poor in the entire Kiambaa constituency.
Macharia said that the people of Kiambu are angry with him for saying that he quit President Kibaki’s camp just because Lewis Nguyai who is Mp for Kikuyu was given an assistant ministerial post instead of him.
“This is being selfish and visionless. In fact, if he vies for governor, we shall bring him head down and make sure he does not regain his political powers anymore. Who is he to dictate to us and tell us what to do? He is not our spokesman nor anything close to what Kiambu county requires,” said Macharia.
He said that former defense Minister Njenga Karume was the one who delivered many votes for President Kibaki. “Though Njenga lost to him, we are aware of the great work he did to get Kibaki a massive support from the entire Kiambu region.”
Ting’ang’a councilor David Koine accused Githunguri of being a betrayer and doing his campaigns in a hypocritical manner that immediately after elections, he did a meeting at Karuri where he said he had shifted camps.
“The man is unwise; he thought that Kibaki did not know that all the while Githunguri was a Raila Odinga icon in Kiambu. He should blame Raila for failing to reward him after elections,” said Koine.
Kiambu Mayor Joseph Ndung’u Kibue said that Giithunguri has continued to hurt the Kiambu people and central province in general adding that he always leaves deep wounds in their hearts by jumping into sides where he thinks he would get favors.
The mayor said that the MP has been in a tussle with all Kiambaa councilors who have been rivals since he assumed office after the 2007 general elections.
According to unconfirmed sources, Njenga Karume who is scheduled to be crowned the Kikuyu, Embu and Meru spokesman would be calling a press conference this week to dismiss Githunguri’s sentiments.
The rumor going round the county said that Githunguri, former AG Charles Njonjo, Juja MP aspirant Alice Wambui, and an unidentified MP from Kiambu west in collaboration with Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth are gearing up for a massive support to gun votes for Raila in central Kenya during the campaigns which are due to start by December.
