Share/Save/Bookmark A group of Maasai leaders have endorsed the nomination of Keriako Tobiko as Director of Pubic Prosecution ahead of Tuesday’s debate in Parliament over the position.

The leaders also voiced their support for the nomination of Dr Willy Mutunga and Nancy Baraza as Chief Justice and deputy Chief Justice respectively.

Addressing a press conference at a Nairobi hotel yesterday, the group led by councillor Alex Magelo praised the Judicial Service Commission for conducting the interviews in a transparent manner. “We hope all the nominations will be approved by Parliament,” said Magelo.

The nominations carried out this month have elicited different reactions with Kenyans giving different views as to whether Parliament should endorse or reject the nominees. Catholic bishops have openly opposed the nomination of Mutunga on grounds of morality and integrity.

The bishops last week urged MPs to reject the names when the nominations come up for debate in Parliament. Last week, a suit was filed in court seeking to block Tobiko from being DPP.
