An MP in the ‘No’ camp grabbed 5,000 acres of public land in Nairobi’s Embakasi constituency, Prime Minister Raila has claimed.
Raila yesterday said such leaders were fighting hard to defeat the Proposed Constitution to protect stolen property.
"Parliament will have to state what shall be maximum size of public land an individual can own…some people in the ‘No’ camp have huge chunks and are already panicking… communal and private land will not be affected by this clause," said Raila.
Speaking during the handing over of 400 three-bedroomed units of National Housing Corporation houses in Lang’ata, Raila warned land grabbers on the southern by-pass, saying illegal structures on the route would be demolished once construction starts.
"A new constitution will drastically improve the political governance. We will be improving our economy and transforming our lives," said Raila.
The Prime Minister and Housing Minister Soita Shitanda tried to woo Housing Assistant Minister Margaret Wanjiru to join the ‘Yes’ team, but she stood her ground.
"I know Wanjiru will soon cross over… her case is like that of a woman who says ‘No’ for the two, three times when seduced, before she finally gives in," Raila said amid applause from the crowd.
Wanjiru retorted: "My stand will not change until August 4."
Raila called on Christians to allow Kadhi Courts to remain in the Constitution to serve Muslims who do not utilise other courts when marrying or resolving marital disputes.
