Coridors of Power

Tuesday, September 3, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A top official of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission does not seem to realize that there could be a conflict of interest when he socializes with people under investigation by the EACC. The man was recently one of the guests who attended the housewarming ceremony of a senior government official. During the function, the civil servant asked the EACC official to sack those responsible for releasing information about an investigation against him. The EACC official was also a much valued guest at the homecoming fete of a Principal Secretary from Central Kenya who is coincidentally being investigated by the EACC!

A Governor from the Rift Valley whose election has been challenged was overheard bragging that he would not lose the case. His confidence is infectious as some of his supporters have already been celebrating the outcome which is yet to be known. It seems the governor already knows that the courts will 'cooperate' and rule in his favor later this month. The jury is still out on how the governor managed to get the 'cooperation' of the petition court to be so sure of the outcome.

One of the technologically advanced governors made a point of ensuring that his departmental heads were aware he was monitoring whatever was going on even though he was thousands of miles away at a conference in the US. The man was able to keep track of subordinate staff deployed to clean the county rep offices and realized that many of them were just lacing around. Concerned, the governor called the supervisor who lied that the staff were working diligently. However, the supervisor was taken aback when the governor sent him real-time photos showing the complete opposite of what he was saying!

An insurance company which is associated with politically correct individuals won a Sh45 million tender after one of the company officials 'oiled' his way into the procurement team. The fact that the man was already aware of the amount budgeted for this service did not hurt at all. Neither has the political connections harmed the company which has in recent weeks been able to land several top notch government parastatals as clients.
