UHURU/ RUTO’s Jubilee does it AGAIN: From the Senate to the National Assembly

Thursday, the 28th of March 2013 -Former Siakago Member of Parliament Justin Muturi was today elected the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Muturi beat strong competition from the former Speaker Kenneth Marende to emerge victorious.

The contest between Muturi and Merende provided an early sign of which of the two main coalitions Jubilee and CORD has the upper hand in the house.

Muturi’s 219 votes to Marende’s 129 should surely give the CORD coalition something or two to worry about especially in the wake of whitewash that the Speaker’s contest was in the Senate.

Muturi however used his acceptance to promise that he will serve the House faithfully and honestly;

"As your Speaker, I will fervently preserve the powers, privileges and immunities of this House, without which, optimal performance would be greatly compromised," he said.

"I also purpose to defend and uphold the dignity of this House and to enforce, uncompromised adherence to the Constitution, our laws and the Standing Orders in the management of the business of the House," he added.
