The chairman of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia, told the youth to be careful on what they post in the social sites .
“I call upon the youth to watch carefully what they write on Facebook as many may soon find themselves in trouble for spreading hate speech,” Dr Kibunjia said.
He was addressing more than 200 young people at Keringet Social Hall in Kuresoi District on Saturday during the Kuresoi Youth forum organised by Save The Rift Initiative (Sari).
A commission member, the Rev Lawrence Bomett, accompanied Dr Kibunjia.
Kuresoi has been the epicentre of tribal clashes since the introduction of multi-party democracy in Kenya in 1992.
Dr Kibunjia warned the youths in Rift Valley Province against propagating negative ethnicity that may lead to a flare-up and instability in the region.
The youth, he said, should be at the forefront of the fight against tribalism.
He advised them against being power-hungry and instead seek leadership with sobriety.
The convener of the Sari initiative, Mr Brian Rono, said that the youth in the area would not accept again to be used by politicians to cause mayhem.
“We have learnt a lot and have vowed to co-exist because we have been misused for a long time by politicians who later dump us,” Mr Rono said.
He appealed to the youth to elect leaders who will champion their rights.
