To enhance efficient Police response, the County Government of Machakos today gave communication gadgets to Police in Machakos. The gadgets include 250 walkie talkies, 23 laptops, 9 signal transmitters and 9 radio base control.
“We want to continue supporting what Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government is doing,” said Governor Alfred N. Mutua, EBS. Security is both a National and local problem and we all have to play our part.”
In addition, Governor Mutua announced that in next year’s budget, his Government has set aside Kshs.200 million for Police housing. “Our Police need to live in decent housing. They put their lives on the line for us,” said Governor Mutua.
The communication gadgets are part of a programme by Machakos County to make Machakos secure for residents, visitors and investors. The County has provided 120 police cars and has already installed 500 CCTV cameras and set-up 5 control centres in the County.
“Today, if you call for a police car and ambulance, anywhere in the County, it will take between 5 and 8 minutes for Police to arrive,” added Dr. Mutua.
Acknowledging the importance of efficient communication in preventing and fighting crime, Machakos County Police Commander Gedion Amalla who was present at the event praised the Governors efforts, empowerment and passion to help the force work efficiently and assured Machakos residents of his officers’ commitment to protect them.
Deputy County Commissioner, Machakos Sub-County, George Onyango assured the public of Police Officers doing an extra duty to remain a step ahead of criminals. He commended the good job being done in Machakos saying it should be replicated all over the Country to combat crime and terrorism.
Present also were Joseph Kaitany, Machakos County AP Commander, Ms. Hellen Kiilu the County Minister for Decentralized Units, Municipalities and Urban Centres together with the Chief Officer in the Department Mr. Nimrod Mbai.
