Deputy President’s wife, Rachel Ruto, is one of the most philanthropic women in Kenya. She is always busy criss-crossing the Country to help the less privileged in the society and inspire women to start small businesses.
While speaking in a recent seminar in Huruma, Nairobi, she revealed how she once donated her skirts to her friend who ended up embarrassing her.
Rachel revealed that she decided to pay the said friend an impromptu visit to see how she was fairing on and to her shock; the woman had used the skirts as window curtains.
“A couple of years ago, one of my friends was going through a rocky phase in her marriage. Whenever she came to visit, she would share how her husband had abandoned the family and how they didn’t even have food. I was touched by her plight and decided to do some shopping for her.” She narrated.
“ A few weeks later, I decided to pay her a visit to find out how they were doing. I was shocked to find the skirts I had given her had been transformed into curtains”. She added.
Ruto’s wife told residents of Huruma that she was embarrassed and nearly collapsed after seeing how friends can take your kindness for weakness.
The moral of the story was to warn the women at the three-day seminar not ask for gifts they don’t even need.
