The sacking was done by President Uhuru Kenyatta via a gazette notice dated February 27, 2014.
The president did not offer any explanation for the move.
Uhuru replaced Semelang’o with music producer Bruce Odhiambo.
Odhiambo will serve for three years. His appointment will run from March 1.
Gor is ran the board for exactly a year. He was appointed by former President Mwai Kibaki on January 16, 2013.
He had served for three years as a board member before his appointment. Semalang’o was the third chair of the fund after Hellen Tombo (2006 to 2009) and James Gitau (2010 to 2013). He is the shortest serving chair.
Sources told the Star that Semelang’o's problems begun when he picked a fight with a senior Jubilee cabinet minister.
He is said to have written a protest letter to the minister accusing her of looking down upon him.
Semelang’o was among a group of youthful leaders who supported the re-election of Kibaki in 2007.
Besides him, others in the group included Ambassador Yvonne Khamati, Bob Kioko and Patrick Ngatia.
