TWO MPs from Kakamega county have said they will accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta to The Hague. Matungu’s David Were and Benjamin Washiali of Mumias East said they have decided to show solidarity with President Uhuru.
“It is African to show sympathy to a neighbour, friend or relative during hard times,” Washiali said.
Were said Kenya is mature and able to manage its affairs without interference from foreigners. “President Uhuru has the right to choose whether to go to The Hague for the trial of his case,” he said They said they will foot their own bills to and from The Netherlands.
“Our trip will not affect the Kenyan economy in any way” Were said. He said Kenyans should not read any malice in their decision to accompnay Uhuru and Ruto to The Hague.
“Any Kenyan able to pay his travel bills is free to attend the court hearings at The Hague,” Were said.
They were speaking to the press after attending a burial in Mumias on Saturday. Evans Nasebe of the Union of Kenya Civil Servants asked all civil servants to register with the new union .
He said the union is in charge of the government’s workforce. Nasebe said the government should fast track the delayed implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed five years ago.
He said civil servants will down their tools if the CBA is not implemented. “This will harmonise house allowances for all civil servants,” Nasebe said.
