Coast MPs walk out of Museveni's function

Coast leaders stormed out of a meeting with Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni in Mombasa on Tuesday evening.
The leaders said Ugandan security harassed them.
Museveni, accompanied by his delegation from Uganda and Kenyan hosts, arrived at the Uganda Property Holdings building for the official opening of the facility.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was then shoved aside by Ugandan security manning Museveni.
Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar asked why there was such fracas. He was removed from the conference room, which is on the first floor of the building.
MPs were then barred from accessing the floor and asked to remain out.
This further angered the Kenyan delegation, with Cabinet Secretary Mining, Najib Balala, asking, “Is there a problem, can we walk out,” but his enquiries were caught up in the ensuing drama with one of the organisers urging him and Joho to go upstairs, 'to solve the issue'.
The MPs, Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe), Hezron Awiti (Nyali), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Badu Twalib (Jomvu) among others, said they felt disregarded and humiliated by the Ugandan security.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku and Lamu Senator Abu Chiaba attending the meeting and were among the few Kenyans ushered in during the signing of the visitors book.
The rest were informed by the Ugandan organisers to wait in the parking yard with other dignitaries, where they had been allocated space at the main dias.
"This is our land. We decide what we want. Let the Ugandans take the seats and we shall stand. This very humiliating. The property is in our area, we are the local leaders and we are being locked out,” Mwinyi said.
The MPs then left in a convoy.
A Ugandan official said the MPs were angered because they were subjected to security checks.
He said they were included in the list of invited dignitaries and had their sitting arrangement at the main dias.
George Kidima, chairman of the Ugandan community in Mombasa, said there is a cordial relationship between Kenyans and Ugandans.
By the time of going to press, the meeting was still on and Museveni was yet to address the gathering.
