The aide identified in court documents as Edward Onyango is the Director of the Raila Odinga Centre.
He denied the charge when he appeared before a magistrate at the Kibera Law Courts and was remanded for three days to facilitate ongoing investigations.
The money was stolen last week from the Raila Odinga Centre in Upper Hill.
When the official was arraigned in court on Monday, the prosecution pleaded with the magistrate to remand him in custody to enable them complete their probe.
Police had earlier said they were investigating how the money and other items were stolen yet most of the office doors were not broken.
When the former premier first spoke about the issue, he urged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure they prosecute the perpetrators.
Apart from the aide, two administration policemen posted to guard the offices were also questioned by the police.
