President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Nyando, Kisumu County for the burial of the teachers’ union boss David Okuta.
President Kenyatta arrived at Onjiko Primary School for the requiem mass which was also attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga together with other Cord members.
The Kenya National Union of Teacher’s (Knut) secretary-general died a fortnight ago. He was 61.
Security was heightened as top government officials and dignitaries attend the ceremony.
Mr Okuta’s family members including his widows and children eulogised him as a great husband and father who worked tirelessly to ensure they lived comfortably.
Knut national chairman Wilson Sossion also eulogised Mr Okuta as a great man who worked to the benefit of the teachers’ union.
Others who attended the ceremony include Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero and Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma.
