FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY STEPHENE SANGIRA
THE government of China has offered 50 scholarships a year to the residents of Nairobi. Chinese ambassador Liu Guangyuan said the scholarships to Beijing University will be given for five years.
He was speaking at Governor Evans Kidero's residence in Nairobi. Kidero said the scholarships will be useful for the development of the county social and economic development of Nairobi. This will be done "by enabling bright but needy students to receive undergraduate education in China against their personal pledge to work for the benefit of their communities and their nation upon graduation".
“The fundamental philosophy behind my campaigns was that I will improve the education standards for Nairobi's residents from baby class to University level and then seek employment opportunities for the thousands of the unemployed youth in the city," Kidero said. The governor also met the Israeli ambassador to Kenya Gil Haskel who promised to work with him in trade.
