- Police are investigating why Mr Mugwe was in the school premise at 3am when the incident occurred
Lower Yatta DC James Hungi Mugwe was on Sunday dawn killed during a raid at St Joseph High School in Githunguri, Kiambu County.
Mr Mugwe is said to have died from massive bleeding after sustaining serious injuries on his head by a blunt object. His assailants also stole two computers and a projector.
Police are investigating why Mr Mugwe was in the school premise at 3am when the incident occurred.
However, unconfirmed reports say he was visiting a friend and was leaving early in the morning when he met a 10 man gang.
The gang raided the school and tied up four security guards. They stole two computers and a projector at the principal and secretary offices.
The gang also attempted to break into the computer lab but were unsuccessful.
The incident occurred when all the 600 students were sound asleep in their dormitories located away from the offices.
A fifth security guard at the hostel section wondered why his colleagues failed to conduct routine patrol but found them tied in their office and Mr Mugwe's body lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
Area Police Boss Verah Wilkister confirmed that the gang stole two computers and a projector.
“The computer lab door has many dents but it seems they were unable to break in,” confirmed OCPD Wilkister.
The deceased body was taken to City Mortuary.
