Lecturers issue fresh 7-day strike notice

Learning in public universities will be disrupted from next week after lecturers issued a 7-day strike notice over salary increment arrears.
On Monday, the lecturers under the umbrella body of Universities Academics Staff Union (Uasu) they have received 17.42 per cent increment instead of the 33.1 per cent agreed on last September.
"The 33.1 per cent was honoured after we went on strike last year in September. Sh3.9billion was released by Government on December 5 as agreed but instead university officials have declined to honour the government deal," said Uasu Secretary General, Dr Muga K'Olale.
Uasu is now asking the Ministry of Higher Education to intervene over the matter within seven days failure to which they will go on strike on Monday next week.
"We have given them seven days to intervene or else will go on strike," said Dr K'Olale.
