Widow in Sh70 million propery row murdered

A 52-year-old Kenyan woman embroiled in a protracted Sh70 million property dispute has been murdered and her body dumped in a septic tank in Malindi.

Lillian Mwikali Andree was killed on Sunday night, but it was not until yesterday that her decomposed body was found. She had gone to court in a bid to take over Sailfish Club Restaurant which was owned by her late German husband who died 1995.

She reportedly jetted in the country from Germany three weeks ago to pursue the legal means of repossessing the property which is also being claimed by a Dutchman.

The club is currently managed by Dutchman Emericus Van Dewerf. Police got information on Mwaikali's death at the restaurant.

The watchman who was on duty on Sunday is reportedly missing and his whereabouts are not known. Security officers in conjunction with the Malindi Municipality fire brigade officers and Kenya Red Cross officials were forced to break the septic tank which is in the restaurant and found the decomposed body floating in one of the chambers.

It took them more than three hours to access the body which was swollen and smelly. Malindi district CID boss John Ndung’u and his team of detectives and regular police personnel were at the scene to collect evidence.

They found some blood spots from one of the rooms which led them to the septic tank were she had been dumped. Some crucial documents were also missing from the house where Mwikali's was staying since arriving from Germany.

Residents were shocked to find out that the woman had been killed. Mwikali’s lawyers who were present at the scene said they smelt foul play in their clients murder. Her case was up for mention at the Malindi High Cour yesterday.

One of the neighbors who sought anonymity for fear of being recognized said they overhead people saying about the murder incident on Monday but the workers dismissed it.

Maurice Kilonzo said his client was the legal owner of Sailfish club but found it had been ‘stolen’ by the foreigner under dubious means.

“We moved to court last week under certificate of urgency and the matter was supposed to be head today, surprisingly I tried to look for her since Monday to sign some affidavits that would be presented to court but her phone did not go through," he said. The lawyer said attempts to send one of his counsel to the hotel did not bear fruit as he was not allowed to step inside.
