Water minister Charity Ngilu has ruled out any possibility of forming a political alliance with Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka despite calls by leaders from Ukambani for the two to unite.

Ms Ngilu however said she would form an alliance with like-minded politicians including Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto.

“The coalition that we shall form with Mr Ruto and Mr Kenyatta will of course produce the president of this country and I am sure we shall form a government that will address the problems facing Kenyans,” she said.

She made the remarks on Friday at Unoa grounds after touring Mwaani and Kaiti borehole water projects in Makueni District.

The minister who was accompanied by Mutito MP Kiema Kilonzo, Assistant minister for Agriculture Gideon Ndambuki and Kibwezi MP Phillip Kaloki castigated the Vice-President, saying he was a non-performer and could not deliver if he were elected president.

“I know that people from Ukambani want me to unite with Mr Kalonzo but it is not possible, I will only unite with people who have the interest of the common man at heart,” she said.

Solve problems

Ms Ngilu said the Vice- President had been in government for more than 25 years but had not helped solve some of the problems like poverty, food insecurity and water shortage facing Ukambani region.

The minister promised that if elected president, she would address food security, ensure Kenyans get access to quality health care, free basic education, eradicate poverty and empower women.

Speaking at Wote on Friday, Ms Ngilu promised residents that her ministry would provide enough water for domestic and irrigation purposes.
