The International Criminal Court says it was
focusing latest investigations on the cases of four suspects Deputy Prime
minister Uhuru Kenyatta, Eldoret North MP William Ruto, former Head of Civil
Service Francis Muthaura and radio journalist Joshua Sang.’
The visiting head of jurisdiction of the ICC Mr
Phakiso Mochochoko said the Prosecutor’s Office was consolidating the cases
against the four suspects of post election violence.
Asked by a journalist to explain if the court
was investigating anybody else apart from the four, Mochochoko said they were
tightening the case on the four only so far.
Speaking in Nairobi during a routine update on
the happenings of the Court in the Kenyan situation, Mochochoko warned against
intimidation of witnesses.
“Suspects are being monitored and as of now no
violation of rules has occurred.” He said.
“The warning against intimidation of witnesses
and the families of witnesses was illegal and still stands and suspects or
people in government must not threaten the witnesses.”
He said that the process was a legal one and not
a political one. “ICC has nothing to do with those running for elective offices
in Kenya. But crimes against humanity will not go unpunished.”
He said any suspect whether Head of State, Prime
Minister or King would face a similar process before the court should warrants
of arrest be issued against them.
He said there is a set criteria for withdrawing
a case from the ICC and the office of the Prosecutor will be given a chance to
give its stand on such a move.
The official expressed satisfaction with Kenya’s
cooperation with the Hague based Court.
