Maasai elders at the weekend said they will vet all aspirants seeking leadership positions in the rich Narok County.
They spoke as they endorsed Mr Johnstone ole Nchoe, an Information Technology specialist to run for the governor’s seat.
Apart from the massive revenues the county collects from tourism — around Sh2.1 billion a year from those visiting the Maasai Mara game reserve — it Narok also renowned for its wheat and barley.
On Sunday, Mr Nchoe said infrastructure leading to the Maasai Mara game reserve should be improved to attract more tourists to the region.
Tour operators, drivers and hoteliers have complained that the 40km section of the Narok-Sekenani road was totally impassable.
“The roads and other infrastructure should be improved as a matter of priority as this is the only way in which we can market the natural resource (Mara)…if that is done, we shall for sure attract more tourists to our country,” he said.
Mr Nchoe said he would also be seeking to dialogue with those who have encroached on the Mau water tower with the aim to finding an amicable solution to the issue.
