By Nancy Akinyi Suspected serial killer Philip Onyancha’s teacher has a case to answer in relation to alleged recruitment into an occult.
Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Grace Nzioka put Elizabeth Wambui to her defense after the close of the prosecution case.
The magistrate stated that the evidence adduced before her by the prosecution was enough to sustain the charge against her.
Wambui is charged with initiating his former student, Onyancha, into an occult, which bound him to commit murder when called upon to do so.
She told court, through her advocate, that she would give a sworn statement in her defense hearing, which comes up on Monday next week.
The prosecution called ten witnesses, the main one being Onyancha. Onyancha claimed that police officers forced him to write a statement in which he implicated the teacher.
At that point the prosecution led by chief Inspector Francis Ndiema asked the court to treat him as a hostile witness.
A police officer Samwel Muriithi who was implicated in to coercing Onyancha to write the statement denied the claims.
In his testimony he told court that Onyancha was not coerced to write the statement and that he did it voluntarily.
Statement"Your honour, no police officer forced Onyancha to write the statement but he did it voluntarily in his own handwriting," he said.
Another witness who testified in the case earlier told court that Wambui told him that she lacerated Onyancha to give him the alleged demonic powers.
McDonald Okoth told court that he interrogated Onyancha on the said lacerations and confirmed through a medical checkup that he had two or more cuts on his chest. The officer who is attached to the Criminal Investigations Department told court that Onyancha confided in him that it was his teacher who initiated him into the occult.
Wambui taught Onyancha Kiswahili and CRE at Mahiga Secondary School. He said the demonic powers developed fully between 1998 and 2006.
Onyancha claimed his first spiritual encounter with the said powers was in 2006 when the teacher appeared to him in his sleep and instructed him on when he was to start using his powers and how to do so.
