It was a battle for teachers votes in Mombasa as both Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and his Higher Education counterpart William Ruto took their yes and no campaigns respectively to the annual headteachers conference in the coastal town. While Uhuru claimed 95% of the proposed constitution was acceptable to all, and that the few contentious issues could be dealt with after the referendum, Ruto urged the teachers to reject the proposed constitution, claiming it was fundamentally flawed.
