"NO' Peddling untruths

The National Civil Society Congress is accusing the NO proponents on the Proposed Constitution of peddling lies about the document.

The lobby group further said the opinion polls are scientific and ought to be taken seriously by the YES team.

Addressing the press at a Nairobi hotel, the civil society that is leading the "Katiba Sasa'' campaign urged the YES camp to avoid being hoodwinked into reacting to what the NO side says and instead endeavor to educate the public on the document as the reactionary approach is what is causing the fall in YES figures shown by recent opinion polls.

NCSC officials Paddy Onyango, Reverend Timothy Njoya and Oduor Ong'wen said the draft law once it is promulgated it will then set the structures needed in empowering women.

Ong'wen said this will aid in showing women contribution to the national gross domestic product which will in effect allow them to earn from the national till.

They urged former President Moi to let the wheels of democracy roll and allow Kenyans to realize a new constitution instead of being the impediment that was to propagate the status quo.

Two opinion polls released by two research companies have put the Yes team in the lead.

The latest poll by Synovate released Friday shows 57 percent of Kenyans will vote Yes. The poll further indicated that 20 percent of Kenyans will vote against the proposed law while 19 percent are still undecided on which way to vote.

However the release of the report has stirred controversy with its authenticity being put to question amid allegations the report was doctored in favor of the proponents of the draft.

The ‘No' team has dismissed the polls claiming the government is plotting to rig the August 4 referendum vote.
