Higher Education Minister William Ruto has vowed to continue with his "NO" campaign on the proposed constitution.

Speaking at Sogoo in Narok South District, Ruto said he was ready to be sacked, maintaining that he will not abandon his campaign against the draft which he said had flaws that the two principals had acknowledged.

The Minister who took his campaign to Transmara called for changes to the contentious issues before the referendum which is scheduled for July this year.

Ruto who was accompanied by the Lugari MP, Cyrus Jirongo, Chepalungu's Isaac Ruto, Saboti's Eugene Wamalwa and Igembe South's Mithika Linturi, said different groups had raised pertinent issues that should be looked into before going for the referendum.

The minister who was moved from the Agriculture Ministry denied allegations that he betrayed his party members during the Naivasha retreat by the Parliamentary Select Committee on draft constitution.

Former President Daniel Moi also threw his weight behind Ruto. Moi who launched his campaign in Kamkunji grounds in Nakuru , urged Kenyans to reject the draft unless the abortion and land clauses are ammended.

Coast MPs

Elsewhere, Coast Members of Parliament have unanimously agreed to support the draft constitution, saying it has more gains for Kenyans than the current constitution.

Under the auspices of the Coast Parliamentary Group (CPG), the MPs said that although they were unhappy with some clauses including the chapter on representation they were satisfied with the draft document as it is progressive than the current constitution.

CPG secretary Dan Maanzo said after day long deliberations with civic society and constitutional experts who explained to them specific provisions in the draft, they were optimistic that the document was the best gift for Kenyans.

The MP who was flanked by eight legislators also said they will in future push for amendments to the clause.

Speaking at a Mombasa hotel on Friday night, Maanzo who is also Voi MP said they would take their yes campaign to the grassroot to ensure the draft law is fully supported.

Mps present during the meeting were Dr Nuhu Nassir (Bura), MP for Galole Major rtd Dhadho Godhana, Gedion Mungaro (Malindi), Francis Baya (Ganze), Calister Mwatela (Wundayi), Ali Hassan Joho (Kisauni), and Masoud Mwahima (Likoni).

Garsen MP Danson Mungatana, special programs minister Dr Naomi shabani, and CPG chairman Benedict Gunda who is also MP for Bahari skipped the meeting.
