Mungiki leader baptised by Government minister

Maina Njenga, leader of the dreaded Mungiki sect has been baptised, a month after he got saved at the Jesus is Alive Ministries (JIAM).

Mr Njenga who will now be known as John Maina Njenga was baptised on Sunday by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru together with about 200 other youths who also got saved at the church.

“Today because you have understood the meaning of salvation and you are getting baptised, you are baptised by the name John Maina Njenga,” Bishop Wanjiru told Mr Njenga as she baptised him.

Mr Njenga accepted Christianity in late October after he was released from jail after the Attorney General entered a writ of nolle prosequi in a case where he was accused of allegedly ordering the massacre of 29 people in Karatina by members of the outlawed sect.

He thereafter declared the illegal sect disbanded and appealed to all its nearly five million members to publicly denounce the sect.

“Praise the Lord! Today I am wearing a t-shirt engraved ‘Jesus is the final answer.’ Those who were giving me two or three days in salvation will get tired of waiting for me to backslide,” he said.

At the same time, Bishop Wanjiru who is also the Housing Assistant Minister hit at her colleagues in Parliament saying they had left the youths to suffer.

She said this was the reason issues like increased drug abuse especially in Coast province thrived.

“I have no apologies to the drug barons, their time is over, and we will not continue losing our youths over drugs,” she said.

“It is also embarrassing to our leaders in this country, some pride in their leadership but their areas are the ones where almost full generations of youths are dying from drugs,” she added.
