Kenyans are 'happy' that the President is back after trips to Malta, Paris and Johannesburg and are having a field day on Twitter via hash tag #UhuruInKenya.
One of their photoshopped pictures of the "tourist President" read 'Karibu Kenya [welcome to Kenya]', reflective of what the government did for US President Barack Obama in July and Pope Francis in November.
Also terming him the "visiting" President over frequent trips, one said "visitors have started arriving for Jamhuri Day celebrations, including Uhuru", adding he will leave shortly after Independence Day is marked on December 12.
They reminded the President of "pressing issues" including Eurobond proceeds, some of which are allegedly missing, corruption and criticism by the Opposition, and revisited the infamous 'hotbed of terror' remark.
In a mockery of international networks that have been criticised for what has been termed an exaggeration of facts, one wrote; "International media be like 'President Kenyatta visits a brutally corrupt country in Africa', leaves his money safe in Euro' [sic]."
Another wrote; "Just like Obama we are not sure which hotel will host President Kenyatta while in kenya for five days [sic[."
Among Uhuru's other trips are a five-day official trip to Japan in March for the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) and one to Italy in September when he met Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and President Sergio Mattarella. He also launched Kenya’s new international brand at the Expo Milan 2015.
The President has also been to the United Arab Emirates. He has been on more than 40 trips since taking office in April 2013, compared to his predecessor Mwai Kibaki who only went on about 30 during his tenure. Uhuru has also been criticised for taking large groups with him.
While most of the social media users complained about corruption and misuse of funds following several reports, one lauded the President for the purposes of his travels saying he is "doing well".
Uhuru has returned to the county after tours of three countries during which he attended and addressed forums key to the development agenda.
He and First Lady Margaret arrived early Sunday morning from South Africa where he attended the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
During the summit in Johannesburg on Saturday, Uhuru lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping on his pledge of Sh6.1 trillion for Africa's development saying "China and Africa have the potential to achieve great things together".
He held discussions with Xi on improving growing ties between Kenya and his country, anchored on equality, mutual trust and benefit, and win-win outcomes.
In Paris, France, where he attended the UN Climate Change Summit, Uhuru was among African leaders who pushed for secured legally binding commitments on the global issue.
The commitments are aimed at reducing carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
He was previously in Valletta, Malta for the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), at which he called for unified efforts in the fight against radicalisation, violent extremism and terrorism.
