The shooting guard will be 25 years old next season.
The Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte Hornets have been discussing a trade that would send enigmatic shooting guard Lance Stephenson to LA, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The Clippers would reportedly send back Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes.
Stephenson has one-year, $9 million guaranteed left on a contract he signed with Charlotte last summer, with a $9.4 million team option for the 2016-17 season. Stephenson was at the center of trade rumors throughout the season, but wasn't dealt despite reported interest from the Brooklyn Nets.
Things did not work out for the 24-year-old Stephenson in Charlotte. He averaged only 8.2 points and 3.9 assists per game, as he shooting percentage fell to 37.6 from the field and 17.1 percent from three-point range. Stephenson turned down a five-year, $44 million deal to re-sign with the Indiana Pacers weeks before jumping to the Hornets.
Stephenson is known as a temperamental and enigmatic player, but could provide wing defense and playmaking to a Clippers team looking to get over the hump in the Western Conference.
We'll update this story as it develops.
