NANDI Hills MP Alfred Keter has said he will run for president in the 2017 general election, if Deputy President William Ruto fails to vie for the seat. The legislator said URP is getting a raw deal in the Jubilee administration.
Keter urged Ruto to boldly ask President Uhuru Kenyatta to step down for him in 2017. Speaking at Ziwa town in Uasin Gishu on Friday evening during a fundraiser, Keter said Ruto does not have the people’s interest at heart. He assured residents that he is ready to contest for the top seat to safeguard their interests.
“Let Uhuru reign in this term. He should support Ruto in 2017 as appreciation for the support he received in his first term from Rift Valley voters. If Ruto will not be ready and willing to ask Uhuru that, then I will be ready to vie for president,” Keter said.
He cited the sacking of top Kalenjin leaders and the stalled projects in the Rift valley including the construction of three major roads that were initiated by President Kibaki—Eldoret- Ziwa- Kachibora, Mosoriot- Kaiboi and Chepterit-Baraton roads.
Keter said the national government has not prioritised development projects in the region. He questioned why contractors are withdrawing their machinery from the sites citing lack of funds yet the projects have been approved by the national government.
