Kibera Law Courts.
A Kibera court has ordered a 23- year-old man to be taken to Mathari Mental Hospital for medical examination to ascertain if he is able to answer to the charges.
This is after Brian Kimani Wahu refused to plead to the bhang possession charges that he is facing. It is alleged that he was found with 17 rolls of bang near the State house, Nairobi.
When the charges were read out to him he vehemently refused to answer and remained quiet even when the court ordered him to plead guilty or not guilty, he did not utter a word refusing to talk even though he can hear and is able to speak.
Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi then ordered the police to escort the accused person to Mathari Hospital so that he can be checked.
The case will be mentioned on Monday next week so that his medical report will be produced in court to show whether Kimani can take plea or not.
According to police records, the accused was arrested on Tuesday this week at 7.00 in the morning by the GSU personnel who were at the State house main gate. It is alleged that the officers saw him near the main gate and he allegedly looked suspicious and when they searched him they found him with the 17 rolls of bang that is valued at Sh 340. He was arrested and escorted to Kilimani Police Station and charged with the offense of being in possession of narcotic drugs.
