Business boost as Prophet Owuor enters Kakamega town

THE business community in Kakamega town recorded huge profits following a crusade held in the town by Prophet David Owuor on Monday. It was a golden opportunity for the businessmen, who pitched tent outside Bukhungu stadium for the big crusade. The prices of food went up by Sh100 per plate of Ugali with beef stew from Sh70. A plate of Ugali with greens doubled its price to sell at Sh80.
The price of chapati and tea increased from Sh20 to Sh40 while a bottle of 300ml soda went up by Sh25 to sell at Sh50. “We have seen the light come to us this time. God has remembered and heard our prayers for such an event to be held here, and we hope we shall make good money this season,” said Agnes Wanjiru, a business woman.The wholesale price of a loaf of bread is normally Sh38, but it went up to Sh50 for retail traders. A salesman, Andrew Khisa, from Hot Loaf Bakeries in Bungoma said they made more money than usual.
Accommodation was also not left out as the charges for rooms within the town went up from Sh600 to Sh800 a night, for a single bed. The price of a double room went up from Sh700 to Sh900. The transport sector as well got a boast, with the normal fare of Sh200 from Kisumu to Kakamega rising to Sh400. New fare to Kakamega from Bungoma was Sh250, up from Sh180.
