SALIM Lone, a political advisor to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been praised for his contribution to ensure that Kenya get the right leadership.
Former Attorney General Charles Njonjo who organized the luncheon at the Muthaiga Country Club in Salim's honour, said it was important to thank Salim for the great work he has done for Kenyans.
The event was to bid farewell to Salim who in Wednesday relocated to New York in the United States of America.
He is a veteran journalist and respected communication spin doctor with a dual citizenship in Kenya and the US.
Salim is writing a book (War and Peace in Kenya) on the last ten years after former President Daniel Moi's rule which he hopes to finish in May 2014.
Njonjo said: “Not only was Salim working very well for Raila, he was also working for Kenyans.”
He said there would be a void in the Kenyan media without Salim.
“Go but always remember that Kenya still stands, and share with many of us the common principles and values,” Njonjo added and urged Raila to speak against emerging acts of destroying the gains made during the reform struggle.
Salim was a key ODM plank during negotiations to form the grand coalition government in 2007 following the disputed presidential results.
Raila attended the lunch meeting and recalled his hey days with Salim in New York with both agreeing that they have helped each establish international contacts.
Raila said he is ready to soldier on with politics.
“This is not the end, continue to build bridges with our overseas friends,” Raila said to Salim who said he was more than ready to play part in any of Raila's ambition.
Salim said he still has not seen a colossus politician of Raila's calibre in Kenya.
“He represents honesty and means what he says. He is the only leader who has managed to garner passionate support among all tribes,” Salim said as he likened the passionate support to former US president Bill Clinton.
Present at the luncheon that discussed a wide range of issues were Siaya Senator James Orengo, former Kiambaa MP Stanley Githunguri and Raila's son Fidel.
