The brand, which is famous worldwide, will be the first of its kind in Africa. It is expected to boost investment opportunities and attract high-profile tourists
The Sh500 million resort owned by Italian billionaire Flavio Briatore was officially opened on Saturday.
Briatore arrived in Kenya for the official opening of the Billionaires Resort and Christmas holiday on Saturday accompanied by his son Falco Briatore and other family members.
Briatore declined to address journalists at the aiport. Tourism Secretary Phyllis Kandie, top officials from the ministry and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi are expected to attend the official opening.
MPs Dan Kazungu, Malindi, Kilifi North MP Gideon and other local leaders will also be present. The billionaire brand which is famous worldwide will be the first of its kind in Malindi and Africa at large and expected to boost the tourism industry and attract high class tourists.
Some of the Billionaires who bought the apartments are Kenyans while the foreigners include include Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi who is serving a sentence in Italy, Fernando Alonso Díaz a Spanish Formula One racing driver and a two-time World Champion who is currently racing for Scuderia Ferrari.
“The Apartments were bought by Billionaires, majority of them are Briatore’s business partners from Monaco and Italy,’’ he said in an earlier interview.
Briatore earlier said the resort town of Malindi had a grand opportunity for major investment to attract world renowned celebrities because of its good climate ideal for holiday.
Flavio is also said to be planning to set up a further 24 apartments similar to those at the Billionaire’s Resort and at least 15 suites to meet the demand for luxury accommodation in Malindi beginning march next year. In his last visit Flavio said most of his clients who bought apartments had never been to Kenya and loved it.
