Two Jubilee MPs Saturday told Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter that his demands to have civil servants who served in the Kibaki regime fired will not be met.
Starehe MP Maina Kamanda and his Eldama Ravine counterpart Moses Lesonet accused Mr Keter of making unrealistic demands on the President and his Deputy, thus causing unnecessary anxiety in the ruling coalition.
“He should respect senior public servants who have been working for the good of this country. If he continues with this kind of noise and name-calling, he is going to demoralise individuals who have been working very hard,” Mr Kamanda said.
The Starehe legislator, who was speaking in Nairobi, said some of the public servants Mr Keter want sacked are responsible for the country’s economic stability under the Kibaki regime and deserve accolades, not criticism.
“We want him to know that the Uhuru Kenyatta government did not come through a coup – this is a serious civilian administration. Why call for sacking of individuals just because they served under Kibaki? The President will not do that,” Mr Kamanda said.
Mr Kamanda also denied a claim by Mr Keter that Mr Ruto was being set up for failure. He said that central Kenya would back Mr Ruto after President Kenyatta’s two terms.
“The President is a serious man; I know he means well for his brother Ruto. Let it be clear that the people of central Kenya will back Mr Ruto to a man because of what he did to ensure an easy victory for President Kenyatta,” Mr Kamanda said.
Mr Lesonet told the Sunday Nation that Rift Valley people are at the moment satisfied with the administration of Mr Kenyatta, adding that the President and his Deputy have ensured equity in distribution of public jobs and national resources.
“This man called Keter is a lone ranger. We are all wondering who he is working for because his noise doesn’t have any support on the ground whatsoever,” Mr Lessonet said.
He described the demand to have some civil servants relieved of their duties because they worked under Mr Kibaki as outrageous. He asked the Nandi Hills MP to tone down his rhetoric. “We are all shocked about what we have been hearing from him,” he said.
