THE Jubilee administration which touted itself as being wired in the digital age during election campaigns is finding itself mired in the analogue antiquity of government systems.
The Star has learnt that even State House is yet to acquire wireless internet connection because the National Intelligence Service says it is a security risk.
NIS says installing wireless internet will expose the President to hackers. The highest office in the land relies on normal connections, insiders say.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has moved his office from Harambee House to State House.
According to State House sources, the President cannot hold a video conference from State House because of slow internet connection.
The government runs various accounts on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook but the use of e-mail is yet to be accepted as an official means of communication.
“Internal communication is still done through hard copy letters,” a government source said.
“We cannot even email presidential speeches.” One insider said the President’s Mashujaa Day speech on October 20 will be airlifted to all counties because this “has been done since 1963”.
Over the years, the government has been floating tenders titled ‘Airlifting of Presidential Speeches’ and there have been queries on why they cannot be sent through email.
It is also alleged that the President’s communication team is working on a shoestring budget and is yet to have fully functioning and equipped offices.
