Lawyer Kethi Kilonzo was on Monday “formally arrested” by police but released on a free bond, awaiting charges in court on Tuesday.
She is expected to be charged with theft and forgery of an electoral document, after her appearance at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission official Godfrey Lebisu was similarly given a free bond and is to face theft and negligence of duty charges in court.
FINGERPRINTS TAKEN
The two had their fingerprints taken during the session with detectives at the Serious Crime Unit.
IEBC reported to the police that a voter’s slip she presented when seeking nomination for the Makueni Senate seat in July was stolen and details fraudulently written.
Police investigated Mr Lebisu because he was the officer in charge of safekeeping a booklet from where the slip was allegedly plucked.
The prosecution would be seeking to prove that Ms Kilonzo’s document was acquired illegally.
