Four people died in a road crash as police arrested the owner of a bus company whose vehicle was involved in an accident in which 41 passengers perished.
The four died on Saturday night when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident on the Bomet-Narok highway at 11.30pm.
The accident, which occurred at the Masare junction black spot five kilometres from Bomet Town, involved two lorries that were headed to Narok.
The dead were aboard the ill-fated lorry, whose driver’s cabin was completely damaged, trapping the victims in the wreckage.
According to Bomet district deputy traffic base commander James Munyi, the driver of the Mitsubishi vehicle, which was carrying sugarcane, allegedly rammed the trailer on the highway, killing the four occupants instantly.
It took police officers four hours to retrieve the trapped bodies, which were badly mutilated.
The bodies of the dead are lying at the Longisa hospital mortuary of Bomet county.
Meanwhile, the owner of the ill-fated City to City bus company that killed 41 passengers on Thursday last week in Narok has been arrested.
Narok police boss Peterson Maelo on Sunday confirmed that the businessman, who was on television last week defending the bus company, is bring detained at the Muthaiga Police Station.
He will be charged in court on Monday.
HELD RESPONSIBLE
“The owner of this bus company is in police custody at the Muthaiga Police Station and will be taken to court tomorrow morning,” Mr Maelo said.
The arrest comes after Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau said that the company should be held responsible for the accident.
